Masochists at the least, or more like sheep, I fear. It's things like this that make me long to be an ex-pat again. I think the president, or umaguma, or whatever he's called, head of Iran had it right: America as an empire is in decline. I'd only add the word 'sharp' to that sentence.

Amen! While something certainly does need to be done about the ailing economy, I feel confident that the government borrowing $700 billion in an effort to pad the bank accounts of the already ridiculously wealthy is not the best solution.

As for Palin... I believe this quote from an article on CNN's website sums it up beautifully (in regards to distaste for Palin even among her own party members)-- "In defense, Republicans say the complaints are coming from 'intellectual' conservatives -- not Main Street Republicans, who they insist love the 'hockey mom,' from Alaska, as Palin describes herself."

What is this country coming to, that she actually has a snowball's chance in hell of being elected? I think it's generally assumed that McCain's going to kick the bucket somewhere during that first term. If that happens... SHE will be our president. She who has the ability to make Dubya look like some kind of super-genius. I was amazed when Bush won his second term. I thought surely I could not be more let down by those around me who would actually vote for such a moron... twice. Now that I'm actually and truly looking at the possibility of a McCain-Palin victory... I'm just absolutely dumbfounded. Are we a nation of sadists, or are we really that stupid?
